A Comparative Review Study of Different Types of Radiation Sterilization Methods

Abstract
This review paper aims to gather information on various radiation sterilization methods to assist in determining which method is appropriate for each application. While the review discusses the primary principles, mechanisms of microbial inactivation, process parameters, material compatibility, and certain uses in the medical, pharmaceutical, and food and consumer product industries, it provides an analysis of the available peer-reviewed literature. Also provided is a detailed analysis of the pros and cons of each sterilization method, along with the impact of various laws and ISO 11137 sections. Review the safety and environmental concerns for each radiation sterilization method. Finally, the review discusses industry trends moving towards alternative methods of sterilization using e-beam and X-ray technologies.
