Abstract

Wireless sensors are utilized to monitor devices with substantial current running through them in the power system. Monitoring ensures dependable power transmission and prevents cascading power failures. This work presents the design and optimization of a dumbbell-shaped magnetic core for the purpose of harvesting magnetic flux in proximity to bus bars and transformers within electrical substations. The gathered energy powers wireless sensors, rendering them self-sustaining. The proposed core can generate 17.63mW of output power with 40000 turns when situated in a magnetic field of 9 µT rms. The proposed core is straightforward to assemble and can generate power to supply monitoring sensors in the smart grid.
