Abstract

Codes of ethics in public universities are key instruments for strengthening an institutional culture based on integrity, responsibility, and respect for democratic values. This article analyzes the role that these codes play in university governance, academic life, and professional training, highlighting their importance in contexts where transparency, equity, and accountability are growing demands. Through a theoretical review and institutional experiences in Latin America, the challenges in its formulation, appropriation and implementation are examined. It is concluded that for codes of ethics to be effective, they must be accompanied by pedagogical processes, active participation of the university community and institutional mechanisms that guarantee their application.
