Interplay of Climate Change and Water Stress in Bundelkhand Region of Madhya Pradesh: Risks, Resilience and Adaptation Strategies
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Bundelkhand area of Madhya Pradesh, India, contends with a dynamic interaction between climate change and water stress, greatly harming its socio-economic and ecological balance. The study examines the connections between these occurrences, highlighting the circumstances of Bundelkhand's water-related problems. The study attempts to address complex threats, resilience mechanisms, and adaptation and action techniques relevant to the area by drawing on a thorough interdisciplinary lens spanning environmental, social, economic, technological, and policy dimensions. Based upon a comprehensive literature review, the study uses qualitative and quantitative secondary work evidence from empirical research, policy analyses, official reports, and community-based studies. It applies a system-oriented perspective to evaluate vulnerability, adaptive capacity, and resilience mechanisms that combine traditional knowledge with modern interventions. Unpredictable precipitation patterns, warming temperatures, and growing water demand amid agricultural growth are some of the variables that come together to cause water stress in Bundelkhand. The synthesis indicates that climate-driven shifts in temperature and precipitation contribute to intensified groundwater depletion, increased surface-water variability, and ecosystem degradation with cascading effects on agriculture and water-dependent livelihoods. To promote resilience and guarantee the region's water security in the face of changing climate conditions, policymakers, governmental organizations, and stakeholders are encouraged to adopt a comprehensive approach and give community engagement, sustainable water management techniques, and ecosystem restoration projects top priority. This study adds to the larger conversation on climate change resilience and sustainable water management by illuminating Bundelkhand's water-related problems and adaptation needs. It also provides insightful information and guiding principles for the creation of policies and grassroots initiatives in the region.
