Abstract

Green human resource management (GHRM) has emerged as an important strategic approach for integrating environmental sustainability into human resource management practices. However, limited empirical research has examined how GHRM contributes to employee health, particularly in sustainable agricultural organizations where employees interact closely with natural resources and environmentally sensitive production systems. This study examines the effect of GHRM on employee health and investigates the mediating role of green workplace practices in sustainable agricultural organizations. Using a quantitative research design, data were collected from employees of agricultural and agro-based organizations and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that GHRM positively contributes to the development of green workplace practices and directly improves employee health. Green workplace practices also have a significant positive relationship with employee health and serve as an important mechanism linking GHRM to employee health. These findings indicate that the implementation of environmentally oriented human resource practices can contribute not only to organizational environmental sustainability but also to healthier workplace conditions and improved employee well-being. The study contributes to the sustainable human resource management literature by integrating green HRM, workplace sustainability, and human health within the context of agricultural organizations. Practically, the findings suggest that agricultural organizations should integrate environmental considerations into recruitment, training, performance management, employee participation, and workplace practices to create organizational systems that simultaneously support environmental sustainability and human health.
